About LAOS

Where It All Began
Thanks To Our Friends & Supporters
LAOS first started performing in Loughborough in 1895, officially registering with NODA in 1899 for our production of Agetha. This took place in the local church hall where carriages were available to take you home from 10:15pm sharp! Over the following decades LAOS performed in a number of venues across the town and under a variety of names, Finally settling on Loughborough Amateur Operatic Society in 1939.
Our 1914 show of King Hal was particularly popular. It had a cast of 60 Adults and tickets cost between 6 Pence and 3 Shillings. That's approximately 21/2 to 15p today! Unfortunatly, due to inflation that had to change, but one thing that hasn't changed is out tradition of "Keeping it in the Family". In King Hal there were 7 sets of sisters, mothers and daughters!
